The Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter is a bidirectional connectivity solution designed for Mac computers. It enables compatibility between different generations of Thunderbolt technology, allowing users to connect Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices to newer Macs equipped with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) or USB 4 ports. Compatible devices include external hard drives, Thunderbolt docks, and Thunderbolt-enabled displays such as the Apple Thunderbolt Display and LG Thunderbolt 2 displays. The adapter also works in reverse, permitting the connection of newer Thunderbolt 3 devices to Macs with Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 ports, provided they are running macOS Sierra or later. It is important to note that when connecting an Apple Thunderbolt Display, an external power source is required as the display cannot provide power through this adapter.
